Two men were killed and a woman injured Sunday in a head-on collision on California 126 near Fillmore.

The California Highway Patrol said an Oldsmobile driven by Hector Ramos, 21, of Santa Paula was westbound in the wrong lane about 7:15 p.m. when it hit a Volkswagen van head-on two miles west of Fillmore. Both cars were traveling about 60 mph.

Ramos and his passenger, 18-year-old Eduardo Ramos, died instantly. The two men were related, said CHP spokesman Steve Reid, but he didn’t know how.

The van’s driver, Lea Fowler, 30, of Valencia was taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Santa Clarita, where she was listed in fair condition Monday. Fillmore firefighters spent 45 minutes cutting Fowler from the wreckage while the highway was closed to one lane until about 9:30 p.m., authorities said.

Toxicology tests are pending.

Fillmore Fire Chief Pat Askren said the Oldsmobile struck the van squarely.

“The car was five or six feet shorter than normal, like they ran straight into a wall,” he said.
