Mission Viejo quarterback Josh Rodarmel, who left the Diablos’ 48-0 victory Thursday over Fountain Valley in the first half, will likely to be sidelined five weeks because of a broken collarbone.

“It was a clean, simple fracture of the clavicle,” said Marty Spalding, Mission Viejo’s offensive line coach. “They are talking five or six weeks before he can participate. We were all thinking he would be out for the year, but it’s still intact.”

Rodarmel completed six of his first seven passes for 103 yards, and two touchdowns. He also had one pass intercepted. Rodarmel played an additional four downs with the broken collarbone and during that time he had two incomplete passes.

“[Offensive coordinator] Bret Johnson’s brother, Rob [quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers], broke his clavicle last year,” Spalding said. “Bret was talking to Rob, and Rob told Bret, ‘If the kid can throw two passes after breaking his clavicle, he must be one of the toughest guys on the planet.’ ”

Matt Uritas completed one of three passes for no yards in relief of Rodarmel. Sixth-ranked Mission Viejo plays No. 7 Mater Dei on Friday at Santa Ana Stadium.
