New president for the Emmys

Dick Askin has officially been named chairman of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences -- the organization that presents the Emmy Awards -- after a vote by the board of governors Wednesday night.
The election was largely a formality, since Askin was running unopposed to replace Bryce Zabel, the current chairman, who had announced in May that he wouldn’t seek a second two-year term. Askin is the president of Tribune Entertainment, a part of the Tribune Co., as is the Los Angeles Times.
The new officers will take their seats in October, after the upcoming nighttime Emmy Awards, which will be presented Sept. 21 and televised by Fox.
