Trainer Pinelli Has Two Strong Candidates

Share

Trainer Laura Pinelli has the horses to beat in tonight’s main event, a $14,150 allowance at 870 yards.

Oak Canyon, who won the La Playa Handicap at 17-10 on July 5, and Coolmore, who was fourth in that race, are the Pinelli duo against Nothing But Luck, War and Remembrance, Runbyu, Wylackie Spirit, Chicks Charger Easy and Mister Ryon.

Owned by Leonard Shoemaker, Oak Canyon, a 3-year-old gelded son of thoroughbred sire Grand Slam, lost his first 10 starts but has won his last pair.

Before his nose victory over Heros Call in the La Playa, Oak Canyon had broken his maiden by 2 1/4 lengths as the 4-5 favorite.

Guillermo Gutierrez will ride.

A 4-year-old gelded son of Carson City, also a thoroughbred, Coolmore has won three of 18 and has hit the board in over half of his races. Baltazar Contreras will ride.
