Seahawks Stay in the Chase

Shaun Alexander and Matt Hasselbeck got off to a fast start. The Seattle Seahawks’ defense took over from there.

Alexander ran for two touchdowns, including a 44-yarder, as Hasselbeck threw for another score. Seattle’s defense had eight sacks in a 28-10 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.

The Seahawks (9-6) survived two fumbles and two interceptions, staying alive in the chase for a possible NFC wild card.

“We have a two-game season,” said Hasselbeck, who played through a respiratory virus that sidelined linebacker Chad Brown.

Arizona (3-12) lost its seventh straight game and 13th in a row on the road.

Seattle finished 8-0 at home for the first time in the 27-year history of the franchise.

Alexander had 135 yards rushing on 21 carries.

Hasselbeck completed 17 of 24 passes for 179 yards with one interception before leaving three minutes into the final period with an ankle injury. He earlier sustained a torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder. The injury wasn’t expected to keep him out of next week’s regular-season finale at San Francisco.

Cardinal wide receiver Anquan Boldin, selected to his first Pro Bowl earlier in the week, had 10 catches for 122 yards, including a 60-yard score in the fourth quarter. His 96 catches on the season broke the NFL rookie record of 90 by New England’s Terry Glenn in 1996.
