Tarzana Stoneridge Prep, which is 23-1 and No. 2 in the Southern Section Division V-A boys’ basketball rankings, has been banned from the playoffs by Commissioner Jim Staunton after an investigation revealed that at least three players appear to be ineligible.

The school has until this afternoon to present evidence that could reverse Staunton’s decision.

All the players involved are transfer students who failed to file required paperwork to make them eligible.

The Oak Park girls’ basketball team will forfeit six victories during which senior guard Lyndsey Medders played this season while she was in violation of Southern Section rules regarding transfers with dual residency, a section official said.

The forfeits, all nonleague games, change the Eagles’ overall record from 15-10 to 9-16.

Oak Park remains atop the Tri-Valley League standings with a 9-0 record, so the forfeits will not affect its qualifying for the playoffs.

Medders was reinstated on Jan. 31.

Mike Wunderley, who won 207 games, 10 Olympic League titles and two Southern Section championships in 24 seasons at Cerritos Valley Christian, has resigned as football coach but will remain as an assistant principal, a position he has held at the school since 1999.

Wunderley led the Crusaders to the playoffs every season since taking over in 1979, winning section titles in 1986 and ’95.

This season, Valley Christian finished 12-2, losing in the Division XI title game, 26-22, when undefeated Carpinteria scored a touchdown with 34 seconds left.
