Harbor City Narbonne shot just 25% from the field, never led by more than six points and went to the wire to secure a 41-40 victory over Sylmar in the City Championship girls’ basketball game Saturday at the Forum.
Top-seeded Narbonne (22-6) took a five-point lead with 1:45 left in the game, but Miriama Wrighster, who led Sylmar with 15 points, made consecutive jump shots to cut the lead to 41-40 with 37 seconds remaining.
The third-seeded Spartans (22-7) then forced a wild shot by Camille LeNoir as the shot clock expired and regained possession with 2.1 seconds left but couldn’t get off a shot.
Jamie Funn had 12 points and Morghan Medlock 10 for Narbonne, which won its fifth City title and fourth in a row.
