Burned Body Identified as Missing Man
The burned body of one of two missing San Gabriel Valley men has been discovered in the Barstow area, authorities said Monday.
The body of “Edward” Haang Fung Chin, 25, of Arcadia was found with another body, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Chin and “Alan” Cheuk Lun Cheung, 22, of Monterey Park were last heard from Oct. 2 when they were in the Rosemead area, authorities said.
The second body has not been identified.
The remains were discovered Oct. 26 by a man walking his dog about 7:30 p.m. in a desert area in the southwest portion of Barstow, said Andrew Avery, a deputy investigator with the San Bernardino County coroner’s office.
Chin and Cheung were both born in Hong Kong and immigrated to California, where they became good friends at San Gabriel High School.
They shared a passion for basketball.
Chin, who lived with his father, was last employed by a San Gabriel cafe, according to a friend.
Cheung had studied telecommunications at DeVry University in Pomona, with hopes of opening a computer gaming-related business.
