A 31-year-old Fullerton man was arrested on suspicion of murder Thursday in what police say was the beating death of his 2 1/2-year-old daughter.

Salvador Davila was held Thursday in the Fullerton City Jail on $1-million bond. His daughter, Miranda, died earlier in the day from what authorities described as extensive injuries.

Fire Department paramedics were called to Davila’s apartment in the 1000 block of South Euclid Street on Wednesday night on a report of a child who had stopped breathing. The paramedics took Miranda to Anaheim Memorial Medical Center and called police. The girl was transferred to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where she died Thursday morning.

Police said Davila denied harming his daughter, saying she was hurt when he shoved his son into her.

Miranda’s mother, Tonia Fernandez, 29, was questioned and released. The couple’s three other children -- ages 1 to 5 -- were placed in protective custody.
