A preliminary hearing for former Rialto Eisenhower football coach Glenn Thompkins scheduled for Monday has been continued to Friday at San Bernardino County Courthouse in Fontana.

Thompkins, 27, has pleaded not guilty to 14 counts related to charges that he had an unlawful sexual relationship with an underage female student. Details of the case have not been made public because of the nature of the accusations and the age of the alleged victim.

Last Thursday at a pre-preliminary hearing, Thompson’s attorney, David Goldstein, rejected a settlement offer from the San Bernardino County’s district attorney’s office that would have required three years of felony probation, 180 days in county jail and the condition that the conviction could not be reduced to a misdemeanor even after successful completion of probation.

If found guilty on all counts, Thompkins could face up to 11 years and eight months in prison and be required to register as a sex offender.

The Southern Section expects to complete negotiations with the Home Depot Center, perhaps by the end of the month, and announce it will hold some of its football championship games at the new facility in Carson, a spokesman said.

Assistant Commissioner Rob Wigod said last month that he thought the negotiations could be completed by mid-October, but they are taking longer than expected.

The section has held at least one championship playoff game at Edison Field in all but four years since 1985, but Wigod has said it’s doubtful the section would use both facilities.

Justin Thomas, a starting junior point guard at defending Southern Section Division I-A basketball champion Los Angeles Loyola, will be sidelined until at least January after undergoing surgery last week for a broken ankle and torn ligaments.

Thomas suffered the injury playing a game of touch football during lunchtime at school.
