NEW YORK JETS AT WASHINGTON
Kickoff: 6 PDT, Channel 7.
The line: Washington by 3
Introduction: Tale of two quarterbacks. New York’s Vinny Testaverde, who has passed for nearly 40,000 yards in his 17 seasons, versus second-year pro Patrick Ramsey, who has thrown for a little more than 1,500 yards.
Plot: The Redskins are looking for a strong start after adding a handful of free agents from the Jets in wide receiver Laveranues Coles, right guard Randy Thomas and kick returner Chad Morton. Last season, Coach Herman Edwards led the Jets into the playoffs behind quarterback Chad Pennington. But now Pennington is out because of a wrist injury and Testaverde’s the man.
Bottom line: Look for Testaverde to make the most of his new opportunity.
