3.9 Earthquake Rattles Bay Area

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.9 sent a sharp, short jolt through the San Francisco Bay Area on Thursday evening.
The U.S. Geological Service said the quake was centered near Piedmont, 12 miles east of San Francisco. Police in Oakland and Piedmont said they received no reports of major damage or injuries.
An aftershock with a preliminary magnitude of 3.0 shook the same area about an hour later.
