They’re Not Like Mike

A race after Bob Baffert tries to win an eighth consecutive Del Mar Futurity with Cooperation, the track’s leading trainer will saddle Friendly Mike in a $54,000 allowance at six furlongs.

Friendly Mike is the only one among the five runners Baffert had in last year’s Futurity who is currently racing. Icecoldbeeratreds, the Futurity winner, was euthanized; runner-up Kafwain has been retired; Chief Planner, who finished third, was injured this spring; and Bull Market, who ran sixth, hasn’t raced since he ran in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile last year.

Race of the day: Redattore, who finished last as the 13-10 favorite in the Eddie Read Handicap on July 27, will be heavily favored to rebound against a lesser field in the $75,000 Live The Dream Handicap at one mile on the turf course.

One for the road: Westernize should improve now that she has a race under her belt after nearly 10 months on the bench. The 3-year-old Gone West filly also moves to the turf -- a surface she is bred for -- in the ninth at Arlington Park.

Exotically speaking: A place pick all using Pem’s Hostess in the first, All Souped Up and Draw Off in the second, Redattore in the third, No Issues in the fourth, Sky Reality and Fabulous Passion in the fifth, Grant Marty A Wish and Coconut Girl in the sixth, Tombstone and Spainbird in the seventh, Gulf of Mexico in the eighth, Forward March and Le Mans in the ninth and Irish Nip in the 10th.
