New York 6-6, Tampa Bay 5-3 -- Bernie Williams homered twice in a game for the first time in more than a year and Ruben Sierra added a go-ahead homer in the eighth inning as the Yankees won the opener of a day-night doubleheader.

Sierra then drove in three runs to help them complete the sweep at Yankee Stadium.

New York matched its longest winning streak of the season at eight and opened a 5 1/2-game lead over the second-place Red Sox in the East Division.

Mike Mussina (17-7) got his 199th win in the nightcap and improved to 11-3 against the Devil Rays. Mariano Rivera saved both games.

Kansas City 7, Detroit 0 -- Jamey Wright (1-1) pitched a seven-hitter to win for the first time in almost a year and Carlos Beltran drove in three runs at Detroit. Wright earned his first major league victory since last Sept. 23, when he beat Arizona while pitching for St. Louis.

The Tigers (38-109) tied a franchise record with their 109th loss, originally set in 1996. Their 215 losses in consecutive seasons tie the 1916-17 Philadelphia Athletics for seventh-most in the majors since 1900. It also was their 16th shutout loss of the season.

Toronto 6, Baltimore 1 -- Greg Myers became the second catcher in Blue Jay history to hit an inside-the-park home run, and it helped them win their fourth game in a row. Myers, who scored standing up, is the first Blue Jay player to hit an inside-the-park homer since catcher Ken Huckaby did it July 17, 2002, also against the Orioles.
