Scale library’s offerings online

Share

If it’s bigger than an anthill, and it’s been stumbled, staggered or crawled on, chances are the tale can be found in the American Alpine Club’s library at the American Mountaineering Center in Golden, Colo.

With a collection of 3,000 books on the 14 highest mountains alone, it’s a place where a peak freak can scramble through everything from a 1936 guide to the Slovene Alps to an account of the Kuki-Lushai tribes in India’s forbidding Northeast Frontier. And now, you don’t have to be in Colorado anymore to access it.

The library’s online catalog makes it possible in one click to find that rare book on Eric Shipton or Indian Pandit map sleuths, and have it mailed to your home if you’re a member of the Alpine Club, the Colorado Mountain Club or Friends of the Alpine Club’s library.

The facility has 18,000 items available online, with titles dating back almost five centuries.
