BOYS’ TRACK AND FIELD

Rancho Cucamonga, off strong performances from shotputter Averell Spicer and triple jumper Michael Johnson in the Arcadia Invitational on Saturday, moves up two spots from last week’s rankings. Los Alamitos, led by pole vaulter Dustin Deleo, and Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, paced by sprinter Cary Harris and triple jumper Scott Tsuda, appear for the first time this season.

La Puente Bishop Amat appears in the rankings for the first time this season after senior Jasmine Baldwin won the 200 meters and placed second in the 100 in the Arcadia Invitational on Saturday. Gardena reappears after Myra Hasson’s state-leading performance in the 400 in the California Relays on Saturday.

With seven of the top 10 teams idle because of spring break last week, the rankings are unchanged. Unbeaten Mission Viejo continued to roll along with a nonleague victory over Redlands, while Santa Margarita defeated Fullerton Rosary and Lake Forest El Toro, and Irvine beat Irvine Woodbridge in a Sea View League meet.

Five Westlake players are on a school field trip to Europe and North Africa as the Marmonte League leaders enjoy spring break. Mira Costa has a Bay League showdown with Redondo today.

For the first time in three weeks, it’s plausible to expect a major shakeup at the top. North Hollywood Harvard-Westlake plays at Santa Barbara on Friday. That makes Corona del Mar’s matches at Rancho Santa Margarita Tesoro today and home against Fullerton Sunny Hills all the more crucial for poll positioning.

Cerritos Gahr shot a school-record 165 in a victory over Cerritos at La Mirada Golf Course on April 6. Manhattan Beach Mira Costa won the Oak Park Invitational by eight strokes over Newhall Hart on Thursday. Palm Desert took second in the field of 120 teams at the Palmetto High School Golf Classic at Myrtle Beach’s Grand Strand Course in South Carolina on Saturday.
