City Council Approves Plan to Expand Zoo

The City Council approved a plan to expand the San Diego Zoo that would cost taxpayers $300 million but said that the project would not move forward until it approved financing.
Under the plan passed Tuesday, the city would build a four-story underground parking structure beneath the zoo’s existing parking lot. The San Diego Zoological Society would raise between $100 million and $200 million to construct new exhibits on the lot.
