Long Beach Poly posted yearly state-leading marks of 41.59 seconds in the 400 relay and 3:14.18 in the 1,600 relay in the Penn Relays on Saturday, but the Jackrabbits remain a close third in these rankings that are based on a hypothetical meet involving all of the Southland’s top performers and awarding points to the top six finishers in each event on a 10-8-6-4-2-1 basis.

Long Beach Poly, fresh off its national-record clocking of 44.50 seconds in the 400 relay in the Penn Relays on Friday, will meet Long Beach Wilson in what should be a superb Moore League dual meet at Long Beach Veterans Stadium on Thursday. The teams will hook up again in the league finals at Veterans Stadium on May 7.

Irvine won the Foothill Swim Games for the first time since 2001. San Clemente beat Capistrano Valley in a South Coast League dual meet but finished second to two-time defending Southern Section Division III champion Murrieta Valley in the Palm Springs Invitational. Lake Forest El Toro, which has jumped in and out of the rankings, returns after a fourth-place finish in the Foothill Swim Games.

Corona del Mar showed that everyone else in Southern Section Division II may have to settle for vying for second place as the Sea Kings handled a team expected to be among their primary challengers, Irvine University, in a Pacific Coast League dual meet. Irvine moved out of the shadows by defending the Foothill Swim Games title it won last season.

Newport Harbor beat Sea View League rival Irvine Woodbridge in five games and finished third in the Santa Barbara tournament. Huntington Beach handed Fountain Valley its first Sunset League loss. Long Beach Wilson plays at Lakewood today in a battle for the Moore League title and Santa Margarita plays at Santa Ana Mater Dei today in a Serra League showdown.

Santa Ana Mater Dei earned a share of its second consecutive Ojai Valley tennis tournament team title. Kaes Van’t Hof was a CIF boys’ singles finalist, and the doubles team of Wes Burrows and Chris Kearney advanced to the semifinals. However, none of the teams ahead of the Monarchs lost. Palm Desert’s Cale Planck advanced to the semifinals of the CIF singles draw at Ojai.

Goleta Dos Pueblos shot 359 to defeat Santa Barbara San Marcos at Rancho San Marcos Golf Course even with the Chargers’ top-golfer, Ryan Ritzau, suffering from a wrist injury. Cerritos Gahr won its first Knabe Cup Invitational at Lakewood Country Club by shooting a tournament-record 281 in the four-man competition. Manhattan Beach Mira Costa was second at 288.
