Ohio State Is Upset by Penn State

Jen Harris scored 18 of her career-high 22 points in the second half to lead Penn State to a 69-62 upset of No. 9 Ohio State on Thursday night in a Big Ten Conference opener at State College, Pa.

Harris scored 13 points, including 10 in a row, during a 20-5 run that gave the Lions (6-5) a 38-29 lead with 16:32 left.

Tanisha Wright had 10 of her 22 points in the last 15 minutes to stretch Penn State’s lead to as many as 12 with 5:40 left.

Guard Jess Strom had 12 rebounds and nine assists for Penn State.

Ohio State (11-2) got 20 points from Jessica Davenport, including 16 in the second half.

No. 12 Minnesota 62, Northwestern 44 -- Janel McCarville had 13 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Gophers (11-2) over the Wildcats (3-11) in a Big Ten opener at Minneapolis.

No. 16 Georgia 78, Arkansas 57 -- Tasha Humphrey had 24 points and 12 rebounds to lead the Bulldogs (10-3) over the Razorbacks (9-2) in a Southeastern Conference opener at Athens, Ga.

No. 18 Iowa 62, Indiana 51 -- Crystal Smith scored 24 points and the Hawkeyes (12-0) defeated the Hoosiers (7-4) in a Big Ten opener at Iowa City to extend their best start in 17 years.

No. 20 Purdue 72, Wisconsin 67 -- Erin Lawless scored a career-high 29 points and the Boilermakers (8-3) overcame a 10-point deficit to defeat the Badgers (5-5) in a Big Ten opener at Madison, Wis.
