Joel Walker will likely be a marked man when Newport Harbor plays host to top-seeded Thousand Oaks in a quarterfinal game of the Southern Section Division II playoffs at 3 p.m. today.

That’s because the 5-foot-7 senior forward has 35 goals this season, including six in the playoffs and four in Newport Harbor’s 4-0 victory at Moreno Valley Valley View in a second-round game Tuesday.

“He’s just learning how to use his speed to his advantage this season,” Coach Ryan Hernandez said.

Thousand Oaks (24-3-3), which has a superb forward of its own in junior Jason Leopoldo, has given up one goal in two rounds of the playoffs.
