California Man Hurt in Deadly Avalanche

A Californian mountain climber was in critical condition after he was caught in a New Zealand avalanche that killed four of his companions.
Gabriel Amador, 42, of Rosedale suffered head injuries in the slide on 11,473-foot Mount Tasman. Two of the dead were from Australia and two from New Zealand. A New Zealander was also injured.
The climbers were halfway through a six-day trek in near-perfect conditions when the avalanche hit. The cause was under investigation.
