The Tribes Deserve a Fair Share at Last

Share

Re “Weighing Casino Cash vs. Problems,” July 7: Indians know what it’s like to have problems with new neighbors. When this state was invaded in the 1800s, native residents received no compensation for their land.

And the new owners kept all profits from the exploitation of these stolen properties. What the Indians were given was the “choice” of genocide or subjugation.

If the California principle of “fair share” includes the concept of reciprocity, I believe that most should be content to receive any amount of tribute offered by the casino tribes.
