Pro wrestling gets snubbed

It is sad that in the world of journalism, while writers who are football fans report about football, and writers who are movie buffs write movie reviews, the Los Angeles Times can’t seem to find a single writer who is a pro wrestling fan to write articles about pro wrestling.
Did Martin Miller ever stop to think, while writing “Wrestling Reaches Out to Its Fans” (March 31), that the people reading it would mainly be wrestling fans who would not appreciate the condescending tone of his article?
Did he ever think that perhaps even one line devoted to telling people who “Stone Cold” Steve Austin is would be akin to an article about pro basketball in which you take a sidestep to tell people who Michael Jordan is?
God forbid Miller should actually mention any of the scheduled matches for WrestleMania 21, or discuss any of the story lines going into the event, which, as he briefly mentioned, sold out the Staples Center in less than a minute.
No, of course not. Wrestling isn’t something to be reported about seriously, right? Not like the latest celebrity divorce, or what’s inside Paris Hilton’s Palm Pilot.
