Loyola Can’t Stop Hot UNLV

Michael Umeh had a game-high 20 points and Louis Amundson had 14 points and 10 rebounds in leading Nevada Las Vegas past visiting Loyola Marymount, 79-60, on Thursday.

The Rebels (5-6) shot 68% from the field in the second half, using a 19-7 run over the opening 6:13 to extend their lead to 18 points. UNLV had five players in double figures, including Jason Petrimoulx with 14 points and Dustin Villepigue with 13.

Umeh made five three-point baskets in the first half, including three in the last 2:28 to help the Rebels erase a four-point deficit and go into halftime with a 33-27 advantage.

Loyola Marymount (3-10) dropped its fourth straight game, falling to 1-5 on the road. Brandon Worthy led the Lions with 14 points.

Arkansas Monticello 81, UC Irvine 64 -- M’Jumbe Williams, a former Los Angeles Crenshaw High standout, scored 23 points and the Division II Boll Weevils (5-4) defeated the Anteaters (4-6) in the first game of the Oneida Casino Holiday Classic at Green Bay, Wis.

Arkansas Monticello shot 58% from the field in the first half to lead by as many as eight, and the Boll Weevils never trailed in the second half.

Ross Schraeder scored 19 points, including six three-pointers, to lead UC Irvine.

Boston University 80, UC Riverside 69 -- Kevin Gardner scored 15 of his 19 points in the second half of the consolation game of the Cable Car Classic at Santa Clara, and the Terriers (5-7) sent the Highlanders (0-10) to their 14th straight loss dating to last season.

Corey Hassan had 17 points with three three-pointers for Boston University.

Rickey Porter led UC Riverside with 14 points.
