From Times Wire Reports

A fire on a Metrolink train engine compartment Friday forced the evacuation of 20 passengers.

No one was injured and the cause has not been determined, officials said.

The train had left Irvine for Los Angeles about 7:45 a.m. when an engineer saw smoke coming from the engine. The fire was put out within 25 minutes and the passengers were taken to a train between stops, said Denise Tyrell, a spokeswoman for Metrolink.

“We want the public to know that there was zero chance that the diesel fuel could have caught fire” because of its location far from the flames, Tyrell said.
