A Record Overtime for Boykins

Earl Boykins broke the NBA record for points in an overtime, scoring 15 of Denver’s 21 points in the extra period as the Nuggets, without two key players, beat the SuperSonics, 116-110, Tuesday night at Seattle.

Boykins, the league’s smallest player at 5 feet 5, broke the record of 14 overtime points set by Butch Carter of Indiana against Boston on March 20, 1984.

The Nuggets ended a two-game losing streak and ended Seattle’s four-game home winning streak.

The Nuggets lost Carmelo Anthony to a sprained right ankle early in the fourth quarter. They also played without Kenyon Martin, who had strep throat.

Andre Miller scored 30 points, and Marcus Camby had a season-high 25 points and a career-best 24 rebounds for Denver. Boykins finished with 18 points.

Camby sent the game into overtime when he scored off an offensive rebound with 1.8 seconds left to tie it at 95. Ray Allen missed a jumper at the regulation buzzer.

Vladimir Radmanovic led Seattle with 25 points.

Orlando 103, Detroit 101 -- Hedo Turkoglu scored a season-high 29 points to support Steve Francis’ 32, and Doug Christie made a big three-point basket before defending Richard Hamilton well on a key late possession as the Magic ended the visiting Pistons’ six-game winning streak.

The Magic outscored the Pistons, 20-6, in the final seven minutes in matching its win total for all of last season -- 21.

Hamilton led six Pistons in double figures with 26 points.

The only bad news for Orlando was that Grant Hill finished the game on the bench because of a sore wrist.

Sacramento 113, Portland 107 -- Chris Webber scored eight of his 32 points in overtime and also had 13 rebounds, six assists and four steals at Sacramento in the Kings’ fifth consecutive victory.

Nick Van Exel forced overtime by making a three-pointer with 8.6 seconds left in regulation. Van Exel finished with 30 points, eight assists, four rebounds and two steals for Portland, which lost its fourth in a row.

Dallas 137, Washington 120 -- Jerry Stackhouse scored a season-high 29 points, and Dirk Nowitzki had 28 to surpass 10,000 as the Mavericks scored the most points in the NBA this season at Dallas.

Gilbert Arenas scored a career-high 43 points for the Wizards, who trailed by 20 points after the first quarter and 33 at halftime in losing their second in a row following a seven-game winning streak.

Indiana 87, Houston 74 -- Jamaal Tinsley scored 28 points, including six during a key 10-0 run in the fourth quarter, and Jermaine O’Neal had 27 to help the Pacers win at Houston.

Tracy McGrady scored 28 points for the Rockets, who have lost two in a row after a four-game winning streak.
