Right-hander Pedro Astacio was designated for assignment by the Texas Rangers on Friday.

Astacio, 35, was 2-8 with a 6.04 earned-run average in 12 starts and had lost seven of his last eight decisions.

The Rangers have 10 days to trade, release or send Astacio outright to the minor leagues, an assignment the 14-year veteran could refuse.
