Maiques Pitches a Perfect Game
Rio Hondo College right-hander Kenny Maiques struck out 17 in a seven-inning perfect game to defeat Mt. San Jacinto, 6-0, Saturday.
The other four outs were recorded in the infield, two on pop-ups.
The teams played seven innings because it was the first game of a Foothill Conference doubleheader.
Maiques improved to 4-2 with an 0.68 earned-run average and 86 strikeouts in 52 2/3 innings. He is 3-0 in conference play and has not given up an earned run in 21 innings.
The Whittier La Serna High graduate will play for South Carolina next year.

Cal State Fullerton (17-6) dropped to No. 2 in Baseball America’s top-25 rankings after losing a nonconference series to Long Beach State over the weekend.
Texas (23-4) moved from No. 4 to No. 1.
Long Beach State (18-10) reentered the rankings at No. 22.
Georgia Tech (21-4), Tulane (21-5), Louisiana State (19-6), Mississippi (19-5), Florida (19-7), Miami (22-7), Arkansas (21-4) and Arizona (18-10) round out the top 10.
