Arcadia Forfeits Win Over Villa Park

The Arcadia baseball team forfeited its 4-0 victory Friday over visiting Villa Park in a Southern Section Division I playoff game.

Section officials ruled Saturday morning that Arcadia Coach Sean McCorry, who was ejected from the last regular-season game, was in attendance in violation of section rules.

McCorry was ejected from a Pacific League game May 13 against Crescenta Valley for allegedly cursing, which McCorry denied. McCorry said he checked with school officials to determine the parameters of his suspension and was cleared to view the game from off campus. McCorry said he and a friend watched from beach chairs alongside Duarte Road, which runs parallel to the right-field line at Arcadia High.

“This is crazy,” said McCorry, in his second season coaching the Apaches. “If they want to punish somebody, punish me. I played no part in that game.”

Villa Park Coach Scott Luke confirmed that McCorry was spotted during the game and the Spartans followed with an official protest.

“Coaches can not be anywhere near the facility for the next game,” said Thom Simmons, assistant commissioner and section spokesman. “This coach was seen by more than one person, including the umpiring crew.”
