Wade, Heat Too Tough for 76ers

Dwyane Wade came within a rebound of a triple-double, scoring a season-high 32 points to help the Miami Heat end the Philadelphia 76ers’ six-game winning streak with a 106-96 victory Friday night at Miami.

Wade had 10 assists, nine rebounds and a season-high six dunks. Teammate Antoine Walker scored 26 points off the bench, making 11 of 13 shots.

Philadelphia’s Allen Iverson, the NBA scoring leader, played 48 minutes and scored 33 points but took only nine shots in the second half.

Miami concluded a 4-0 homestand and took sole possession of first place in the Southeast Division. The Heat improved to 5-2 since Shaquille O’Neal was sidelined by a sprained right ankle.

The 76ers lost for the first time since starting the season 0-3. They trailed by at least 11 points for most of the fourth quarter until Iverson’s field goal with 2:57 left made the score 96-87.

Wade then helped put away the win, making a jump shot, then getting a steal and passing to Gary Payton for a layup and a 102-90 lead.

Cleveland 102, Orlando 84 -- With their sixth consecutive victory, including five at Cleveland, the Cavaliers improved to 7-2, matching the second-best start in franchise history. Only the 1976-77 team, which started 8-0, has opened better.

Boston 100, Toronto 93 -- Ricky Davis and Paul Pierce each scored 26 points at Boston to help the Celtics hand the Raptors their season-opening ninth consecutive loss. After Mark Blount’s field goal gave the Celtics a 92-89 lead, Toronto’s Chris Bosh made one of two free throws to bring the Raptors within one, but Pierce added a jump shot and Blount made two free throws.

Indiana 93, Charlotte 85 -- The Bobcats didn’t score for the first 5:02 of the fourth quarter at Indianapolis during which the Pacers went on a 9-0 run. Jermaine O’Neal had 29 points and 18 rebounds to lead the Pacers, who rebounded from a 122-90 loss in Charlotte on Wednesday night.

Detroit 78, Houston 70 --The Pistons (8-0) matched their best start since their first championship season in 1989 with the victory at Houston. The Rockets (3-6) are off to their worst start after nine games since they opened 2-7 in 1999-2000.

New Orleans 95, Atlanta 92 -- Rookie Chris Paul made five free throws in the last 22.7 seconds at Oklahoma City to drop the Hawks to 0-9, the worst start in franchise history.

Denver 95, New York 86 -- Carmelo Anthony took over the game in the third quarter at Denver and finished with 25 points to help the Nuggets beat the Knicks. Channing Frye had 22 points for the Knicks, who finished their Western trip at 2-4.

Phoenix 102, Utah 94 -- Eddie House made seven of 11 three-point shots en route to 31 points at Phoenix, and the Suns handed the Jazz its fourth loss in a row. The Suns broke the game open with a 19-4 run late in the third quarter.

Seattle 98, Chicago 84 -- Ray Allen scored 20 of his 27 points in the second half to help the SuperSonics win at Seattle. Allen could not find a rhythm in the first half, making only two of 10 shots, but was seven of nine in the second half.

Golden State 91, Portland 80 -- Jason Richardson scored 28 points to lead the Warriors to their third consecutive victory over the Trail Blazers in Portland, Ore.

Sacramento 103, Milwaukee 82 -- Peja Stojakovic scored 19 points and Mike Bibby had 17 at Sacramento to help the Kings win consecutive games for the first time this season.
