Robitaille Leads a Relief Effort

King forward Luc Robitaille has seen the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina in photos provided by a pilot friend who has flown people in and out of the area.

Robitaille and his wife, Stacia, have heard about the terrible ordeals those directly affected have endured through Stacia Robitaille’s cousin, whose home was destroyed in Mississippi.

In response, the Robitailles have reached out to four families with plans to help more through a foundation they have set up. The four families will live in the Robitailles’ second home in Utah and then will be moved to a location the families select.

“We’ve watched the TV and seen everything that has happened in New Orleans,” said Robitaille, who also owns a home in Southern California. “But this has affected [many areas]. I have seen photos, and it is horrible all around. There is not a place left standing.”

Besides offering his home, Robitaille has raised more than $40,000, in part through his donation, and created a foundation over the weekend. Those interested in contributing can make donations though shelterforserenity.orgor call (310) 441-9720.

Donations will go to the families that the Robitailles are helping. Stacia Robitaille will travel to Mississippi to take the four families to Utah this week. King President Tim Leiweke said he would make a personal donation, as will the Staples Center Foundation.

The Kings announced that proceeds from their golf tournament will go to help the hurricane relief efforts.
