Highlights of this week’s high school football schedule:

SOUTHERN SECTION

* Westlake Village Westlake (1-0) at Sherman Oaks Notre Dame (1-0), 7:30 p.m. Friday: The possibility of Notre Dame senior quarterback Garrett Green’s playing is “looking grim,” according to Coach Kevin Rooney. Green, who is 26-1 as a starter for the Knights, ranked No. 4 in the Southland by The Times, injured the thumb on his throwing hand in a 27-22 victory over Lake Balboa Birmingham last Friday. If he’s unable to play, Rooney said sophomore Dayne Crist would make his varsity debut. Notre Dame can still count on running back Rodney Glass, who rushed for 124 yards last week, and kicker Kai Forbath, who booted field goals of 42 and 57 yards in the final 22 seconds of the first half to give the Knights the lead for good. Westlake, ranked No. 16, outrushed Oxnard Hueneme, 226-39, in a 40-0 victory last week.

* Newhall Hart (1-0) vs. Ventura St. Bonaventure (2-0) at Ventura High, 7 p.m. Friday: No. 17 Hart was held to 155 yards of total offense last week in a 7-6 victory over Moorpark. The Indians also lost sophomore running back Delano Howell to an ankle injury during the game, and he’s doubtful this week. Howell’s replacement, Robbie Casselberry, led the Indians in rushing last season before switching to receiver. The No. 8 Seraphs can become the first team to win three in a row against Mike Herrington in his 17 seasons as Hart’s coach. They had a balanced attack last week in a 38-20 victory over Santa Fe Springs St. Paul. Quarterback Matt Evans completed 15 of 18 passes for 159 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for two scores, and running back Michael Lee had 125 yards rushing and two touchdowns.

INTERSECTIONAL

* Long Beach Poly (1-0) vs. Bellevue (Wash.) (1-0) at Qwest Field, Seattle, 8 p.m. Friday: This is one of those rare games in which Poly, ranked No. 2 in the Southland by The Times, is the underdog. Bellevue is ranked No. 7 in the nation, and Poly is No. 8, according to Student Sports. Bellevue, a four-time defending state champion, ended Concord De La Salle’s 151-game winning streak last season. The Wolverines, 54-2 over the last four years, have won 24 in a row. Quarterback Eric Block runs the wing-T offense behind big-time lineman Stephen Schilling (6-6, 270). In its victory last year over De La Salle, the Wolverines didn’t pass once. In its 49-27 victory over No. 12 Corona Centennial last week, Poly gave up 241 yards rushing and 377 total. The game will be televised live on FSN West 2.

* Lake Balboa Birmingham (0-1) at Valencia (1-0), 7 p.m. Friday: Ninth-ranked Valencia beat a top-25 opponent last week, La Puente Bishop Amat, 35-21, so what chance does Birmingham have? Consider that the Patriots lost to No. 4 Sherman Oaks Notre Dame, 27-22, last week. Valencia provides a more formidable test for the Birmingham defense. Not only must it contend with Michael Herrick, who passed for more than 4,000 yards last season and 371 last week, but running back Shane Vereen had 164 yards rushing and three touchdowns. That’s quite a task for a defensive unit that starts six sophomores. Birmingham’s best chance to win is to rely on ball control behind sophomore running back Milton Knox.

* Santa Margarita (1-0) vs. L.A. Dorsey (1-0) at Rancho Cienega Park, 7 p.m. Friday: Fifth-ranked Santa Margarita has had two weeks to prepare for the speed and athleticism of No. 15 Dorsey. The Dons’ defense doesn’t give up many big plays because of the exceptional linebacker duo of senior Mark Johnson and junior Robert Mullins and team speed. Quarterback Jon Daniels and third-down conversions will be key for Santa Margarita.

* L.A. Loyola (1-0) vs. Venice (1-0) at Santa Monica College, 7:30 p.m. Friday: First-year Loyola Coach Jeff Kearin makes his in-state debut after a 28-3 opening victory at Aurora (Colo.) Regis Jesuit. Henry Burge passed for 241 yards in that game to lead a Loyola offense that is more wide open than in the past. Speedy receiver Marcus Lawrence caught five passes for 91 yards and two touchdowns, and running back Chad Peppars added balance with 104 yards rushing and a touchdown in eight carries. Venice running back Kenny Ashley showed he is a player to watch this season with 180 yards and three touchdowns in 18 carries last week in a 35-14 victory over Carson.
