Michigan got over its setback against Notre Dame with a 55-0 rout of Eastern Michigan on Saturday at Ann Arbor, Mich.

Max Martin ran for two touchdowns, then Chad Henne threw two touchdown passes to Jason Avant and No. 14 Michigan tied a school record with 28 points in the first quarter.

The Wolverines (2-1) recorded their most lopsided win since beating Indiana, 58-0, in 2000. They scored seven touchdowns and kicked two field goals on their first 10 possessions and shut out a team for the first time since a 38-0 victory over the Fighting Irish two years ago.

“It’s always a plus. It’s more of a pride thing,” linebacker Dave Harris said of getting the shutout. “Every defensive player feels good and we’ll get more momentum going into next week against a physical Wisconsin team.”

The two-time defending Big Ten champion Wolverines begin conference play on the road against the Badgers.

No. 9 Ohio State 27, San Diego State 6 -- Santonio Holmes’ punt returns set up Troy Smith’s two first-half touchdown runs to help the host Buckeyes (2-1), who trailed, 6-0, only 11 seconds into the game after Brett Swain caught a quick sideline pass and scored on an 80-yard play on the first play from scrimmage.

But San Diego State’s offense never again advanced past the Ohio State 46.

No. 22 Iowa 45, N. Iowa 21 -- Drew Tate returned from a concussion to throw two touchdown passes and Albert Young ran for two more scores for the Hawkeyes who tied a school record with their 20th consecutive victory at home.

Tate showed no problems from the concussion that knocked him out of last Saturday’s Iowa State game, completing 15 of 18 passes for 247 yards and no interceptions.

Minnesota 46, Florida Atlantic 7 -- Laurence Maroney rushed for 145 yards and two touchdowns and caught another score at home for Minnesota.

The Gophers (3-0) rolled up 579 yards of offense and led, 40-0, at halftime. Their power running game and physical defense were simply too much for a Florida Atlantic team in its second season in Division I-A.

Indiana 38, Kentucky 14 -- Chris Taylor ran for a career-high 176 yards and Blake Powers threw four touchdown passes at home for the Hoosiers, who ended a three-game losing streak to rival Kentucky.

Indiana is 3-0 for the first time since 1994, and Coach Terry Hoeppner became the first Hoosier coach to mark his debut with three consecutive victories since James Sheldon in 1905.

Penn State 40, Central Michigan 3 -- Michael Robinson threw three touchdown passes and ran for another to lead a well-balanced attack that supported a swarming defense at home.

Robinson was 14 for 23 for 274 yards and Penn State (3-0) dominated from the start against Central Michigan (1-2), which had allowed an average of 454 yards and 28 points in its first two games.
