One man was shot and wounded and another was robbed outside a nightclub early Thursday in a rare instance of violence in Beverly Hills.

The attacks took place at 2 a.m. just outside Club Nirvana, at 8689 Wilshire Blvd., police said.

The victim of the shooting was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he underwent surgery and was in stable condition Thursday afternoon, said Beverly Hills Police Sgt. Michael Publicker.

The robbery victim, pistol-whipped by an assailant who demanded his jewelry and then fled, was not hospitalized, the sergeant said.

Neither the names nor ages of the victims were released.

Police closed Wilshire between Robertson Boulevard and Willaman Drive for six hours while searching for suspects, re-opening the street about 8 a.m.

“This is the first time this year that we’ve actually had shots fired in the city of Beverly Hills,” Publicker said. “We routinely get calls about shots being fired, but after investigation it winds up being children playing or firecrackers.”

A hit-and-run accident also took place while police were investigating the shooting, but that incident probably involved a club patron trying to flee to safety, Publicker said.

“There was a vehicle that was struck, but we believe that as the shots were ringing out people began fleeing the area. We believe it was trying to get out of harm’s way.”
