From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Suddenly, it’s getting crowded atop the Western Conference standings in Major League Soccer.

Chivas USA registered a point for the sixth game in a row after a 0-0 tie against Real Salt Lake on Tuesday night to move to within four points of conference-leading FC Dallas.

Meanwhile, Dallas lost its third game in a row, 1-0, to D.C. United, and the Houston Dynamo remained one point ahead of Chivas after a 1-1 tie against the Columbus Crew.

Chivas (6-5-5) can move into second place with a victory Saturday at Houston.

Chivas goalkeeper Preston Burpo, who made his 10th consecutive start since taking over for Brad Guzan on May 27, recorded his fourth shutout. Burpo, who lowered his league-leading goals-against average to 0.70, made five saves, including a game-saver in the 89th minute on Chris Klein.

MLS’ leading scorer, Ante Razov, who sat out Chivas’ last game because of a sore thigh, returned to the lineup but went goalless. Razov, who has 10 goals, has not scored since June 19.

Real Salt Lake (3-8-4) had one of the best chances to score Saturday in the first minute, but forward Jeff Cunningham missed an open net after taking a cross from Atiba Harris.

Cunningham, who received a yellow card in the 85th minute, will sit out Saturday’s game at the Home Depot Center against the Galaxy because of yellow card points accumulation.
