Chivas Scores Late for 3-3 Tie

Defender Claudio Suarez scored in the fourth minute of injury time to salvage a 3-3 tie for visiting Chivas USA against Real Salt Lake on Wednesday night.

Ante Razov scored his Major League Soccer-leading 12th goal of the season in the second minute and Jonathan Bornstein scored his fourth goal for Chivas (6-6-8), which still has never won in Salt Lake City.

Real Salt Lake (4-10-5) got goals from Andy Williams, Carey Talley and Jeff Cunningham but gave up a late goal for the second consecutive game.

Because of the Colorado Rapids’ 1-0 win over second-place Houston, Chivas moved within five points of the Dynamo and is two points behind third-place Colorado.

Galaxy forward Landon Donovan suffered an injured left hamstring in warmups and did not play in a 4-1 loss to Mexican league team Cruz Azul in an exhibition at UC Santa Barbara’s Harder Stadium. The extent of Donovan’s injury was not known.

Javier Campora gave Cruz Azul a 1-0 halftime lead before Kyle Martino tied it for the Galaxy in the second half. But Cruz Azul closed strong with goals from Gerardo Torrado, Adrian Sanchez and Israel Lopez.

Brian McBride, the only American player to score in two different World Cups, is retiring from international soccer.
