Stranded Motorist Hit, Killed by Car on I-405
A man was killed Sunday when he was hit by a vehicle on the San Diego Freeway after leaving his car to get gasoline.
His name was not released pending notification of relatives, authorities said.
The accident occurred about 11:40 p.m. in the southbound lanes north of Sand Canyon Avenue, said Officer Katrina Lundgren of the California Highway Patrol. Investigators believe the man left his car near the center divider, ran across the freeway to get gasoline and was struck as he returned.
He died at the scene. The motorist whose vehicle hit the victim had stopped at the scene and was not cited.
