From Times Wire Reports

Winds fanned a 1,000-acre brush fire, forcing authorities to close a five-mile section of Interstate 95 in Brevard County.

The fire started in the afternoon, probably caused by lightning, said Dennis Neterer, assistant chief of Brevard Fire Rescue.

No damage or injuries were reported, but several residents voluntarily evacuated their homes to escape the smoke.
