Labor Day Brush Fire Continues to Spread

From Times Staff Reports

The brush fire that broke out on Labor Day in northern Ventura County continues to spread into Los Angeles County, and was only 12% contained by late Sunday, authorities said.

U.S. Forest Service officials said they still could not predict when the blaze, known as the day fire and burning in the Los Padres National Forest, would be fully contained. They noted that the hot, dry weather forecast for this week could cause further problems for firefighters working in rough terrain.

However, officials said the fire, which had burned 13,646 acres by late Sunday, still poses no threat to any structures and has not caused any injuries.
