* at Philadelphia 4, Washington 3: Aaron Rowand’s solo homer in the eighth inning, a two-out drive off Luis Ayala (0-2), sent the Phillies to their fourth victory in a row.

* at New York 8, Pittsburgh 4: John Maine hit a two-run homer and struck out seven to lead the Mets. Maine (11-5) won for the first time since the All-Star break, giving up an RBI double to Xavier Nady, a solo homer to Jason Bay in the fourth, and three other hits in seven innings. The Mets have won eight of 12 since the break.

* Milwaukee 5, at Cincinnati 3: Yovani Gallardo took a shutout into the seventh inning and had a run-scoring single. Gallardo (3-1) pitched out of a bases-loaded threat in the first inning, then shut down a free-swinging lineup that leads the majors in homers.

* Chicago 4, at St. Louis 3: Carlos Zambrano won his 13th game and Aramis Ramirez’s third single broke a seventh-inning tie. Third baseman Scott Rolen’s fielding error opened the door in the pivotal inning for the Cubs.

* at Arizona 9, Florida 3: Livan Hernandez (6-6) won for the first time in 10 starts and the Diamondbacks won their fourth in a row. Dan Uggla homered twice for Florida, his fourth multi-home run game of the season and fifth of his career.

* Atlanta 7, at San Francisco 5 (13 innings): Edgar Renteria lined a go-ahead, two-run double with two out in the 13th inning.

* San Diego 5, at Colorado 3: Adrian Gonzalez doubled home the go-ahead run in the eighth inning.

* at Houston 7, Dodgers 4: Craig Biggio hit a grand slam in a six-run sixth inning for the Astros.
