C Travis d’Arnaud Lakewood Sr. Batted .413 with a league-high seven home runs and 52 RBIs. Also scored 42 runs and struck out only six times in 124 plate appearances. Signed with Pepperdine. 1B Josh Vitters Cypress Sr. Started slowly after contracting pneumonia but still finished with a .390 batting average, nine home runs and 29 RBIs. Was the third pick overall in the Major League Baseball draft, selected by the Cubs. IF Mike Moustakas Chatsworth Sr. Two-time City player of the year broke state’s single season (24) and career home run records this season. Batted .577 with 59 RBIs. Was the second pick in the draft, by the Royals. IF Matt Dominguez Chatsworth Sr. Batted .443 with 13 home runs and 42 RBIs for City champions. Signed with Cal State Fullerton but was drafted No. 12 overall by Marlins. IF Ryan Dent Long Beach Wilson Sr. Batted team-high .468 with 29 RBIs and 44 runs scored for Division I champions. Also had seven doubles, seven triples and 28 stolen bases. Signed with UCLA. OF Aaron Hicks Long Beach Wilson Jr. Hit leadoff for Division I champions, batted .370 with 46 runs scored and 44 stolen bases in 45 attempts. Also walked 27 times and drove in 21 runs. OF Curtis Wagner Loyola Sr. Led Mission League in ERA (2.79) and RBIs (46) while batting .456 with 10 home runs for Division III champions. Also pitched and won six of his last seven decisions to finish 7-5. OF Mike Stanton Sherman Oaks Notre Dame Sr. Batted .393 with 12 home runs, 32 RBIs and 30 runs scored for the Knights. Was drafted in the second round by the Marlins. UTIL Garrett Rau Camarillo Sr. Was among the league’s top two in batting average, home runs, RBIs and ERA. He threw 10 shutout innings in the Division II championship game before the Scorpions eventually lost in the 11th. Coach of year: Dave Legg, Vista Murrieta The Broncos lay low most of the regular season but had one of the best playoff runs of any Southland team, knocking off Cypress, second-seeded Chino and top-seeded Camarillo in the Division II final.
