Adelman set to join Rockets
Former Sacramento Kings and Portland Trail Blazers coach Rick Adelman was expected to be in Houston today, and local media were reporting he’d be the next coach of the Rockets.
Rockets spokesman Nelson Luis said Monday night that Adelman was expected to fly to Houston today, but said he had no other details.
He confirmed Adelman had interviewed for the job, which came open when Jeff Van Gundy was fired Friday.
Citing unidentified league sources, Houston television station KRIV first reported Monday night that Adelman and the Rockets had reached a preliminary agreement and his hiring would be announced in a news conference Wednesday.
The Houston Chronicle and KTRH radio also reported Adelman had the job.
Luis said he could not confirm the reports.
Adelman, 752-481 in his career, was dismissed last summer by Sacramento. He has also led Golden State and Portland, taking the Trail Blazers to the NBA Finals twice.
