CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Drew Brees shook off a slow start to throw for 260 yards and three touchdowns and run for another score, and the New Orleans Saints defeated the Carolina Panthers, 31-6.

Marques Colston caught seven passes for 93 yards and a touchdown for the Saints (5-6), who ended a two-game losing streak. They remained two games behind division-leading Tampa Bay heading to Sunday’s home game against the Buccaneers.

The Panthers (4-7) lost their fifth consecutive game and dropped to 0-5 at home.

David Carr, who started after Vinny Testaverde was a late scratch because of a sore back, threw seven consecutive incomplete passes to start the game. He finished 10 for 22 for 95 yards and two interceptions and was replaced by rookie Matt Moore early in the fourth quarter.
