One man was killed Thursday afternoon in a Van Nuys apartment fire, officials said.
Authorities said the victim, believed to be in his 20s, apparently triggered the fire while he was smoking narcotics in his bedroom. Two other occupants of the apartment rushed to safety during the blaze, and neither they nor anyone else suffered serious injuries.
The fire was reported shortly after 5:30 p.m. at the three-story building at 8070 Langdon Ave.
About 60 Los Angeles city firefighters responded, subduing the flames in 20 minutes.
