An MTA bus rear-ended a pickup truck Saturday in a chain-reaction crash involving two other vehicles in Panorama City, leaving seven bus passengers with minor injuries, officials said.

Two injured passengers were taken to Mission Community Hospital. Five others were released at the scene, said Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Ron Myers.

The accident occurred just after 12:30 p.m., when two vehicles collided in the southbound lanes of Van Nuys Boulevard at Lanark Street, said Gayle Anderson, a spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

A pickup truck then struck the two vehicles involved in the first crash and was hit by the 60-foot articulated MTA bus.

The truck and bus “couldn’t apply their brakes fast enough to avoid this sudden accident in progress,” Anderson said.

About 30 passengers were on the bus, said Officer Angela Stout of the Los Angeles Police Department.
