Chicago 8, at Cleveland 0: Jose Contreras held the Indians to four singles pitching into the seventh inning, and A.J. Pierzynski tied a career high with four hits as the White Sox ended Cleveland’s eight-game winning streak.

Kansas City 8, at Minnesota 2: Alex Gordon hit two home runs and Brian Bannister (12-7) won for the fourth straight time. John Buck had three hits, including his 17th home run, for the Royals, who tied their season high with 16 hits.

Tampa Bay 8, at New York 2: Carlos Pena hit a three-run homer and Tampa Bay beat Andy Pettitte for only the second time in 20 career starts and won a series at Yankee Stadium for the first time since 2005. It’s only the Devil Rays’ fourth series win in 27 trips to the Bronx.

at Boston 3, Baltimore 2: Jacoby Ellsbury hit his first career homer and Jon Lester threw six strong innings for the Red Sox. Hideki Okajima escaped a one-out jam with the tying run at third in the eighth by striking out Kevin Millar and Aubrey Huff.

at Oakland 8, Detroit 7 (10 innings): Jack Hannahan blooped a game-winning single to shallow left in the 10th inning to score Mark Ellis from first. Huston Street (4-2) pitched a perfect 10th with two strikeouts for the win in the A’s fourth extra-inning contest in their last six games.

at Toronto 6, Seattle 4: Matt Stairs and Gregg Zaun each hit two-run homers for the Blue Jays.

Texas 8, at Angels 7: Hank Blalock hit a go-ahead grand slam against Scot Shields in the eighth inning.
