One on Juan

Share

In Tuesday’s Times, Juan Pierre claims that he was “hurt a little bit because it’s like I wasn’t out there in center field” when told the Dodgers had “finally got a center fielder” by acquiring Andruw Jones.

Juan, you seem to be a nice guy. You work hard. You’ve done exactly what you’ve always done -- hit singles and steal bases. It’s not your fault that you have no power. However, anyone who watched the Dodgers last year was disillusioned by your circuitous routes to routine fly balls and horrified with that rag arm of yours. Vin Scully is much too classy to have said it aloud, but I swear I could hear concern in his voice whenever someone hit the ball to you.

Like it or not, it really was like there was no one out there sometimes. I hope Ned Colletti does you a favor and manages a trade.

When I think of the damage done to the Dodgers through Ned Colletti’s numerous acquisitions of overpaid and unproductive players (including Jason Schmidt, Mark Hendrickson, Brett Tomko, Randy Wolf, Esteban Loaiza, Bill Mueller, Julio Lugo, and the epitome of thoughtless acquisitions, Juan Pierre), it makes me wonder how Colletti still has a job. Then I quickly remember that the McCourts are too busy buying homes in Malibu and conjuring ways to make money off of Dodgers fans than to notice the wrecking ball Mr. Colletti has taken to this once-storied franchise.
