A 51-year-old Los Angeles man was gravely injured Saturday when a motorist believed to have been intoxicated pulled in front of his motorcycle, according to Palm Springs police.

The biker was unable to stop in time and broadsided a Toyota 4Runner near East Palm Canyon Drive and Indian Trail. He and a passenger, a 34-year-old Rosemead woman, were thrown from the bike.

The driver of the SUV, Max Moorehouse, 76, of Boise, Idaho, was arrested and charged with drunk driving, police said. He and his wife, a passenger in the Toyota, were not injured. He was being held at the Palm Springs Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
