Sam Farmer’s Monday NFL film review

Share

A common postgame response to questions after NFL games is, “I have to wait to see the film.” Times NFL writer Sam Farmer sorts through the best of Monday’s film review:

----

Brett Favre, Minnesota quarterback, on the unsuccessful attempt of Vikings Coach Brad Childress to bench him in the third quarter of a loss at Carolina:

“There was a heated discussion, I guess you would call it. . . . We were up, 7-6. Yeah, it’s not 70-6, but we’re up, 7-6. So I said, ‘I’m staying in the game. I’m playing.’ I don’t know if it was exactly to protect me, or we had seven points, I’m not sure. That’s his call. But we talked it out.”

----

Richie Incognito, Bills guard, to the Buffalo News, on the $50,000 he was fined for two personal fouls in his last game with the Rams:

“With the fine, I would have gladly paid the 50 grand, I would have paid more to get out of that situation in St. Louis.”

----

Terrell Owens, Buffalo receiver, on Twitter after Sunday’s loss to New England:

“Sometimes things must come 2 an end. u hv 2 move on & accept wht life has 2 offer. So looking 4wd to 2010.”

----

Steven Jackson, St. Louis running back, who hasn’t practiced in a month because of a bad back, but has yet to miss a game:

“It has been whispered in my ear, and that’s from people on my side looking out for what’s best for my future, but I love to play. I only have two more games to play this season. I’m just going to gut it out.”

----

Rex Ryan, New York Jets coach, after Sunday’s loss to Atlanta:

“We’re obviously out of the playoffs, and that’s unfortunate.”

----

Ryan, after learning the Jets in fact have not been mathematically eliminated from postseason contention:

“First off, I was dead wrong in the playoff scenario. You would think that the head coach of the team would know the

situations. I thought we had to win out. We had a single focus that we were going to have to win six straight games. . . . We’ve got a chance to make the playoffs, and, hey, we’re going for it.”

----

LaDainian Tomlinson, San Diego running back, whose team has won nine in a row and clinched the AFC West since starting 2-3:

“We always feel like we play our best football in December. . . . We’ve always felt like we could be in this position.”
