Some super stories go down the drain

Share

The website snopes.com, which takes a look at urban legends, proving many of them to be false, has turned its skeptical eye toward a myriad Super Bowl legends.

Can you guess which of the following are true, and which are false?

1. Sewage systems have broken due to the tremendous number of toilets being flushed simultaneously at halftime.

2. More women are the victims of domestic violence on Super Bowl Sunday than on any other day of the year.

3. Two-thirds of all avocados sold in the U.S. are bought within three weeks of Super Bowl Sunday.

4. Before Super Bowl XXII, a reporter asked Washington Redskins quarterback Doug Williams, “How long have you been a black quarterback?”

5. Super Bowl Sunday is a good time to visit Disneyland, because the park is virtually deserted.

Did you guess which ones were true? None of them are. They are all false.

Trivia time

Which player has played in the most Super Bowls?

An actor in pro wrestling?

While being interviewed on the red carpet before Sunday night’s Screen Actors Guild awards, Mickey Rourke, star of “The Wrestler,” said that he would be appearing at WrestleMania 25 on April 5 and inferred he would be wrestling in a match, saying he wanted to get a piece of World Wrestling Entertainment star Chris Jericho.

It’s surprising that WWE would choose to work with Rourke. WWE Chairman Vince McMahon reportedly hated the film, which doesn’t turn a blind eye to pro wrestling’s faults.

But after the film earned two major Academy Award nominations (best actor for Rourke and best supporting actress for Marisa Tomei), McMahon must have realized that he could make some extra money.

Things are tough all over

Formula One drivers have delayed signing their licenses for this season’s championship after the sport’s governing body hiked the price.

FIA said the increase was necessary to cover escalating safety costs in the sport. The super license, which allows F1 drivers to race, has jumped from $514 to $13,362.

With all of the increases, F1 champion Lewis Hamilton will have to shell out nearly $283,000 to compete in this year’s championship.

Does that include a smog check?
